last week, j and i went shopping at the sunflower market. we love that place for its fresh produce and good prices. we bought our groceries and brought them home.

we loaded our fridge with our new groceries: cucumbers, an onion, bell peppers, carrots, lettuce and a bag of red grapes.

a few days later, while making dinner together, j pulls out the bags of grapes and starts to eat them. i look down and noticed a spider web on a few of the grapes.

we filled a bowl with water and dumped the grapes in there to soak.

and up to the top floats this yucky thing:

it was squirming, and moving its 8 legs around..
in all the movement i was able to capture this shot:

i could not believe it. sick huh? i ran around frantically, and found myself standing on top of the couch telling josh to kill it. he put it in a jar, and took it to work the next day to show his brother.

anyways, it was an adventure i pray we will never have to live again.

today is my husband's birthday. he is 24. he got up, ate breakfast with me and went to work, but only till noon. then we are going to go out and play.

he has mentioned a couple times that he wished we had a nice picture of the draper temple to put up in our house. i search everywhere and only found one, and it was ugly. so i decided i would go take one myself.

after i made that decision, draper made the decision to be rained on everyday. except for this past friday.

fridays are wedding days.

therefore, i drove all the way down there to find cars and people eveywhere. it was frustrating, see:

as everyone already knows, i spent four months last summer in a beautiful city in Romania. Iasi is home to lots of green trees, thunderstorms, dogs, yummy treats, and unfortunately lots of orphans that need our help.

I can not even describe how amazing these children are. My experience serving them really changed my life. It was hard, but i am pretty sure someone once said that the hardest things in life are often times the most beneficial. I came home from Romania with a stronger testimony, a new perspective on how EVERYONE is a child of God, more confidence, a desire to serve more, a desire to make it through school so i can help people more.... i learned SO much.

anyways, the reason for this post is that BYU had to cancel this coming fall semester's internship because they did not have enough volunteers. one of the conforts that i had when it came time to leave my kids was that there would always be BYU interns there to love them... that will not happen anymore if more volunteers don't sign up.and now due to a lack of people signing up, they are going to be alone...

please think about it. pass it on to your friends. these kids need our help.

and things just keep getting better. j & i have been back from our honey moon for a couple days now, and our house is almost complete ( j is building me a bookshelf right this second. he is so handy, i love it)

anyways, i wanted to post the song that goes with the words i wrote out on my last post. no i did not write it. it is called man and wife by michelle featherstone (click to download). that is the song j & i danced to for our first dance.

story behind that song: while in romania, my ipod was my best friend. i had a special playlist i listened to every night, and that song was on it. i would listen to it and think about josh and imagine what it would be like to dance with him to it.

while preparing myself to be a wifey, i have taken on the responsibility to search out inspiration for our future house. some might call the time spent browsing a waste, but to me it is pure joy. i love the creative ways people beautify their homes. look at these lovely things i discovered while waiting for my hubby-to-be to get off of work:

i don't know if my old roomies remember that moldy tulip mess i had growing in our kitchen last year... well this is the lovely thing i was envisioning.

since today is friday, shabbat shalom everyone! the jewish blood in me seemed to leap when it saw these handsome homemade kippahs.

i was trying to explain to josh the other day why we didn't register for any pillows. i told him i wanted to make our own and hang the extra fabric on the wall.. wah law!

what a day

not only are classes coming to an end, but i think that winter is as well.

today was the most beautiful day for many reasons:

1. i rocked my first nursing pass off (thanks to all the many people who let me dress them in a hospital gown and feel for their livers)

2. at 8 pm it was 70* outside = joy, pure joy.

3. i spent five hours in the cadaver lab learning about our amazing bodies and growing more respect for the One who made them.

4. i spent the evening with my favorite person. we ate some sushi, hugged a tree - okay, only i did the hugging, and worked on invitations.

5. the other day i got an email from a lovely lady in romania who had snuck some amazing photos of my child. remember him?

well look how good he is doing! he is no longer in the hospital and i hear he has become even more of a character than before. love that boy. i am so happy he is doing well.

last thing. i found out after i had already started this post, that my abby died at home in my room tonight. she has been sick for a while and i am glad that i got to cuddle with her lots this weekend during conference. she has been our family dog since i was 10. she was really the sweetest thing, always gentle and tempered. so smart, and so lovable. she was a good dog, and will be missed lots.

i got up early to do some studying, but my blackboard account isn't working, so what did i resort to? looking at photos past.

lately, i have been writing lots in my journal about how lucky i am. i say lucky, but i really mean blessed because i don't think it is just my own luck that has gotten me here, but tender mercies from someone much more benevolent.

sitting here i saw photos of a forever family with parents who lead and guide and love, and siblings that mean the world to me.

i see proof of the joy that close relationships bring.

but most of all, i see myself given opportunities to learn about the world, grow tolerance and understanding, and ultimately become the person i am today.

josh took me on our first date. he had asked me out two nights before when we walked home from a cougar volleyball game. i was so excited and had lots of reasons to be - zupas, nerf guns, and lassos were in the line up. josh was such a gentleman the whole night, i was really impressed and enjoyed being with him.

today, we spent the day together to celebrate. we spent a good amount of time looking up grants and figuring out health insurance... then off to the library to study...

or play...

we spent the evening eating yummy homemade salmon, shrimp and asparagus and i actually made it through more than ten minutes of a movie before falling asleep, leaving josh to laugh at the funny parts alone.

anyways, it was a fun day talking about lots of memories and making us so excited for lots more in the years to come.

YES!!!

last night josh picked me up for a surprise date. after a dozen lovely red roses, and a delicious dinner at the market street grill, he just happened to drive us up to the draper temple parking lot, we sat and talked and then he told me that he had something to give me, but we had to get out of the car. we walked for a little bit, and stopped at a corner. he hugged me, said some lovely things and waited for the buses full of people to drive pass before he knelt down and asked me to marry him!! it really was so simple, and sincere and perfect. please raise your hand if you agree with the following statement: i am the luckiest girl in the world. woop woop de woop for spending the rest of forever with the person i love the most.

okay, the story behind the ring is the best:
1) a few weeks ago, josh and i went out to look at rings. we went to a couple places and each place went, i found more i liked. we decided to leave the final decision up to josh... due to the fact that we are both poor college students, i did not think anything was going to happen anytime soon...
2) my sweet soon-to-be fiance, activated an ebay account in hopes to earn some cash! want to know what he was putting up to sell? here are a few of the things i know about:
- a snowboard
- his paintball gun
- a punching bag
- coins from his childhood coin collection!!
- his drill
- a pair of jeans
and who knows what else?

this is proof that i really am marrying the best. what a wonderful example he is to me. he is going to be an amazing husband and father - i can't wait!

i don't normally like to post new things this close together, but i feel this is important.

as you may know from a previous post, two of my friends are serving missions right now. the lovely ladies, sarah and rique live only blocks away in the mtc. WHO is willing to join me in operation midnight mow down, aka the kidnapping of sister carroll and sister fairweather?

think about it, if we do it against thier will, they won't get in trouble and we will bring them back come sunrise in exchange for a dozen baby hamsters. (hey why not get some free food out of it?)

wednesdays used to be my most favorite days - it was a halfway point that meant the weekend was coming soon. the past two wednesdays have not been so joyous. recently, two of my best friends entered the provo MTC - rique last week and sarah today. they are going to italy and the phillipines respectively.

i can't help but feel selfishly sad. life on 50 east is already so different without them.i really do love these girls and will miss them so much, but at the same time i am so so proud of them and their dedication to do the things Heavenly Father wants them to do.

i've been thinking back on memories and often find myself wishing we could go back - back to the laundry rooms or the basement of the dorms where we would dress in our onsies and eat mac and cheese, back to having women meetings after we all came back from semesters off and talking for hours, back to the day we went snowboarding, or riding horses, or all the fun bonfires up provo canyon, photoshoots in the snow or up in trees, dressing up as skittles for halloween, playing flag football... so many great memories...

yesterday, elder holland came and spoke to us cougars. his talks are always
favorites of mine and this one was no exception. he talked about lot's wife and how
she looked back at soddom and gomorrah and turned to salt. he said this,

"it isn't just that she looked back -- she looked back longingly, in short, her attachment to the past outweighed her confidence in the future."

i am pretty sure he gave that talk for me.

once upon a time, josh and i wanted to go sledding...

unfortunately, josh didn't bring his snow clothes. fortunately, my dad let him borrow his.

they might have been a little tight, but josh liked it. and we had fun.

on a different day, i stopped by and spent some time with my favorite 94-year-old. his name is bill. he taught me all the ballroom dance moves i know.

tradition has it that christmas eve is spent playing bingo at my grandparents house.

dad was a good sport and didn't tell on me when i grabbed two prizes instead of one. mom brought home a game of liar's dice, and little gracie sang lots of songs about tinkerbell.

sorry it has been a while since i have posted anything. my days have been occupied changing beds, walking with patients, taking vital signs and doing IVs, AKA life on the 6th floor of utah valley regional medical center.

i really enjoy my job, and am finally starting to really fit in with the team there. its always a little weird being the new person and trying to find a spot in the crew. but things always get better with time. back to work and things getting better with time, it looks like i will be making the 6th floor my new home for the next three years. because intermountain offers tuition reimbursement and because i have six semesters of nursing school ahead, come january, i will be working my little life away with 24 hours a week at the hospital and 16 credit courses at byu. i am super excited. life is great.

Michael Gary Curzon 1944 ~ 2008 Michael Gary Curzon, 64, died Oct 15. 2008 in Salt Lake City following a long illness.He was born April 4th, 1944 in Pocatello, Idaho, the son of Leo Leonard Curzon and Josephine Ruth Martin. He was raised in Inkom, Idaho. He became a medic in the U.S. Army and later served an LDS mission to the Western States Mission from 1964-1966. He married Colleen Scott, daughter of Verl and Arline Scott, November 14, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had nine children: Jonathan, Joel, Jessica, Seth, Michael, Rebekah, Robert, Matthew and Richard. Mike served as an LDS chaplain in the US Army from 1975-1977 in Ft. Benning, Georgia. He worked also as an Employment Specialist for the LDS Church in Renton, Washington. He received his Educational Specialist Degree from BYU in 1985. During this time he taught religion classes part-time at BYU, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. He lived in Salem, Utah many years where he worked as a school psychologist for Nebo School District. Later he worked for Los Angeles County Office of Education. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many ward and stake callings. He was preceded in death by his parents and three children, Jonathan, Seth and Michael. He will be sorely missed. Funeral services will be held Sat., October 18, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Kearns Utah West Stake Center, 6175 West Borax Ave (5820 S). Friends may visit with the family Fri. evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 E., and at the church Sat. morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service. days off give me lots of time to think. about life and where it is going. i am finally feeling in control again. i love my job, i have the greatest friends, my family loves me, i have the sweetest boyfriend in the world, my nursing application is polished and back in, i started a 401k, fall is here - the trees are beautiful, team buell is so fun, no scabies have popped back up, and i have time to play my guitar again. life is really swell right now.

with things going so amiably, i keep feeling like it is too good to be true - some doom is looming around the next corner. because of this, i have had bad dreams multiple nights in a row and during the day my mind fills itself with bizarre hypothetical voices trying to scare me away. i mostly think in circles, but thankfully i always find my way back to the safe, comforting conclusion that God is really the one in control, and as long as i keep trying my best, and trusting in Him and His plan, everything will be fine.

Our flight landed into Salt Lake City twenty minutes early. We had left Iasi over twenty-four hours earlier and our families were waiting downstairs with signs, balloons and warm embraces. Instead of rushing down to greet them, Mindy and I stopped in the bathroom and took our time. I was excited to see my family – I loved them and missed them more than they’d know, but I was not happy to be home. I tried my hardest to act cheerful, but reality set in as I had to say goodbye to Mindy – my bed partner, my classmate, my co-worker, my hospital buddy, my new best friend – and leave with my family. The drive home was quiet. My friends were waiting for me at the house and my mom had prepared a yummy feast. She asked me to bless the food. After thanking God for the safe trip home and the wonderful experiences I had, I pleaded with Him to please take care of the children I had left behind. The tears were not obedient and I opened my damp eyes to see the faces of loved ones so happy to see me, but unfortunately I could not reciprocate the feelings. People had warned me that it was going to be hard to say goodbye, and they were right. That night, I left my king-sized bed and crawled into my little sister’s double bed with her. I closed my eyes and thought back on the last fifteen weeks – on the good and bad experiences that had taught me so much. In this paper I am going to discuss four experiences I had in Romania and what I learned from each.

well according to the u.s department of labor, the number of unemployed persons rose by 592,000 to 9.4 million just in the month of august.

over the past 12 months, the number of unemployed persons has increased by almost two and a half million, with most of the increase occurring over the past 4 months.

sadly, the scott family has been a contributing factor to this rising unemployment.

but that's life, and things will turn around. and i still love america.

we spent our labor day weekend in oakley at the cabin. it was wet and rainy and it even snowed! but it was fun to have my cuddle buddy with me to fall asleep on as we watched movies and that same cute boy almost beat my brother josh at risk... which never hapens. grandpa and grandma came up and played the wii and life was wonderful.

i am back from romania and back to this blog... it has been really weird coming home and trying to readjust back into normal life. i think about romania constantly and little things remind me of my kids or the branch and i can't help but smile. people keep saying that my service in romania was such a selfless thing, but i feel that i gained so much from the experience that it was not selfless in anyway.

well. i am all done and just in time. my medical tests should be back any day now, i went to the temple again finally, spent the day with faces i missed and realized how blessed i am to have such amazing friends.

life is one hundred percent wonderful. and i can read the current ensign! o and drink out of the tap, and understand everything people are saying.

I remember in TX when we drove for hours to listen to him talk. I was only six, but I remember the instant silence that filled the room and how strongly I felt the spirit.

I remember hearing Tola tell her story about grandpy hinckley healing her.

I remember rewatching clips from grandpa's funeral when Hinckley spoke.

I remember the Newport Beach Temple Celebration and dedication and his presence there.

I remember listening to Kunle talk about his visits with President Hinckley and me shaking his hand knowing that it had just touched the prophet.

I loved going to conference live, just to feel of his spirit.

He will be missed, but is needed elsewhere.
